Day 161 / May 31, 2024
Today was our last day in Jasper and we had a lot left to see. I guess that we’ll be adding this one to the list of places we’d like to visit…again!
-

Day 160 / May 30, 2024
The elk wandering through the campground (and our campsite) were pretty cool. The literature from Jasper National Park made sure to highlight the fact that “more people are harmed by elk than any other wildlife” so we’ll continue to keep our distance even if they’re practically knocking on our door.
-

Day 159 / May 29, 2024
One our first day in Jasper we decided to visit the town and get the lay of the land. Jasper National Park, measuring in at over 11,000 square kilometers, is the largest park in the Canadian Rockies so we had some planning to do…
-

Day 158 / May 28, 2024
It was time to say goodbye to Banff National Park and hello to Jasper National Park! Lucky for us the Icefields Parkway connects the parks and has been recognized as one of the top ten scenic drives in the world. 🌎
-

Day 157 / May 27, 2024
Today was another bucket list item for me. Even though we visited a few days too early and Lake Louise was still partially frozen – it was just BEAUTIFUL. 😍
-

Day 156 / May 26, 2024
Today we went to see another part of Banff National Park: Cave and Basin National Historic Site. This has been a sacred place for Indigenous Peoples for over 10,000 years and in 1883, three railway workers happened upon the thermal springs. They started what would one day become Parks Canada. 🇨🇦
-

Day 155 / May 25, 2024
It was another rainy day but that wasn’t about to stop us from exploring nearby Canmore. After much grumbling, we convinced/forced the kids to hike up to Grassi Lakes. 😬
-

Day 154 / May 24, 2024
We really enjoyed our campsite(s) at Banff Tunnel Mountain. Why the plural campsites? Since we booked only a few weeks before (as opposed to a year before like most campers) we pieced together reservations. This meant setting up and moving sites – not once, not twice, but three times during our 6 day stay. 😵💫
-

Day 153 / May 23, 2024
Waking up in Banff National Park meant Adler had a busy morning of glassing ahead of him. He wasn’t the only one hunting for elk before breakfast – Riggs was a helpful partner when it came to animal spotting. 👀
-

Day 152 / May 22, 2024
Now that we’ve dipped our toes into all things Canadian: exchanged some money, practiced converting every possible measurement to the metric system and hit up a local grocery store (not a mecca for fresh produce believe it or not 🙃) – we’re ready to go see some of this gorgeous country!
-

Day 151 / May 21, 2024
Today was a big day for our refrigerator. 😂 Since our current map doesn’t even have Canada on it, we had to temporarily cover it up so we can track our next leg of the journey. Lower 48 portion is in the books! 🗺️
-

Day 150 / May 20, 2024
Happy Canada Day! No, not the national holiday that celebrates Canada’s first step towards independence from Great Britain – today is the day we attempt to enter Canada! 🇨🇦
-

Day 149 / May 19, 2024
Today was yet another rainy, cloudy day at Glacier. We definitely were not catching a break with weather during this visit but we were certainly putting our rain gear to good use. 💧
-

Day 148 / May 18, 2024
Riggs went along with his usual morning routine not aware that he was about to spend the entire afternoon alone while we biked the Going-to-the-Sun Road. No dogs allowed. 🫣
-

Day 147 / May 17, 2024
The weather today was awful – just look at Riggs’ sad face. It rained and rained and then rained some more. 🌧️
-

Day 146 / May 16, 2024
Today we headed into Glacier National Park to check out the visitor center and see what trails were open. We knew that we would be visiting before the park was fully open for the season but couldn’t resist stopping by since it was on our route to Canada. 🛣️
-

Day 145 / May 15, 2024
This morning we had to make a quick trip back to Grant-Kohrs Ranch to earn the Junior Rancher (not Ranger this time 😆). An entire school rolled in for a field trip while we were there yesterday afternoon which occupied all of rangers so we didn’t get a chance to before we left.
-

Day 144 / May 14, 2024
Riggs had a busy morning trying to be extra cute while herding all of his stuffies across the RV. I guess he “heard” that we were going to a ranch today and that no dogs were allowed. 🤠
-

Day 143 / May 13, 2024
This morning we woke up to news about the wildfires in Canada. Not only is this a big problem for Canada, it’s also directly in the route of where we are supposed to be driving in a few weeks. 🥵
-

Day 142 / May 12, 2024
Today we said goodbye to Utah and headed to Idaho. Time to check a new state off of our list! 🥔
-

Day 141 / May 11, 2024
Today was our last day in Salt Lake City with plans for two consecutive nights of boondocking ahead of us. Luckily Matt figured out that we had a problem that needed attention ASAP.
-

Day 140 / May 10, 2024
It’s been awhile since we visited a national park site and we sure did time this one right. Promontory Summit, here we come! 🚂
-

Day 139 / May 9, 2024
Today was finally a nice day so we hit up a mountain bike trail! We actually happened to meet a former MTB champion at REI the other day. She was super helpful in narrowing down potential trails for us to ride in the area. There are just a *few* options out there.
-

Day 138 / May 8, 2024
Even though the weather wasn’t the best, we were enjoying our time in Salt Lake City. Mostly because items are getting crossed off the to do list and I love a good list. The item on the agenda today was to get our cracked windshield fixed. But, nothing is easy when it comes to fixing…
-

Day 137 / May 7, 2024
Riggs has been getting lots of exercise on the trail lately which makes him nap like a baby. We love it when he’s sedated a bit! 😴
-

Day 136 / May 6, 2024
Another day in Salt Lake City meant more errand running after school and work. It turns out that even though we live on the road we still need groceries, dog food and the occasional trip to Target. 🎯
-

Day 135 / May 5, 2024
The priority today was to visit the Apple Store and get Matt a new phone. This was a bummer of a mistake (and an expensive one), but we’re actually really lucky that this happened near a big city. Off to Salt Lake City we go!
-

Day 134 / May 4, 2024
Waking up this morning next to the apple orchard at Rowley’s Red Barn was a treat. One final trip inside the market for some last minute baked goods and fruit was also a treat!
-

Day 133 / May 3, 2024
Today started out like any other travel day – usual morning routine, plus work and school and packing up and rolling out by the 11 am checkout time. However, we had a “crushing” incident that reminded us to slow down in the future. 😖
-

Day 132 / May 2, 2024
Riggs got to ride along the last time he put himself in the car whilst still tied up to the RV, so he tried that again today. 🤗 We had a long day planned and were already planning to bring him along, but we’ll let him think his little trick worked!
-

Day 131 / May 1, 2024
This morning we packed up and moved to our new destination in Parowan, Utah. It was a short drive day but a fair amount of grumpy attitudes so we headed outside for some forced family fun after dinner.
-

Day 130 / April 30, 2024
Riggs was fed up with being abandoned lately so today he really wasn’t letting us out of his sight. He spent most of the day working with Matt on important business matters.
-

Day 129 / April 29, 2024
Zion was so beautiful yesterday that we had to go back today to see if it still looked the same. 😆 Instead of rushing to try to fit everything in during the day, we’ve decided to lean into our schedule and visit the parks after work and school. The lack of crowds late in the…
-

Day 128 / April 28, 2024
Today we headed back to Zion for more sightseeing and a hike. Angels Landing is the iconic hike here but it is NOT kid friendly so we picked the next best hike to do instead. 🥾
-

Day 127 / April 27, 2024
Today we visited the NPS that was down the road from our campsite. Pipe Spring might not attract the same 4.65 million visitors/year like Zion, but it does have important things to learn about native culture and Western pioneer history. And what better time than during a history lesson to explain polygamy to your kids.…
-

Day 126 / April 26, 2024
We weren’t originally planning to visit Zion until next week, but once I discovered our campground was only 45 minutes away from the East Entrance we couldn’t resist spending an extra day there. Back to Utah we go…
-

Day 125 / April 25, 2024
After 7 productive days we were due to keep moving. We really enjoyed everything Page had to offer and loved the campground we were staying at as well. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end…
-

Day 124 / April 24, 2024
Today was a busy day as we squeezed in everything we had left to see in Page for the very last minute. It was a lot to do in one day but so, so worth it! Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for a long post…
-

Day 123 / April 23, 2024
This morning we got some much needed haircuts at a salon in Page. (We miss you more than ever, Ashley!) We also found a shoe store to pick up new shoes for Everett. His feet had the audacity to grow yet again! 👟
-

Day 122 / April 22, 2024
Matt had been highly anticipating his tour of the Glen Canyon Dam ever since he laid eyes on it. Unbeknownst to us (and contrary to what their website stated) dam tours were no longer happening and they didn’t know if they would ever resume. Dam it! 😆
-

Day 121 / April 21, 2024
Today was another day of chipping away at the to do list. Maintaining a house that’s rolling down the road has come with some unexpected challenges, but we’re handling it so far.
-

Day 120 / April 20, 2024
Today was a grocery shopping, errand running and checking RV repairs off the to do list kind of day. It was also fun to be able to hike on the red rocks right outside of our campsite. Peek Matt, Elleny, Adler and Riggs way in the distance!
-

Day 119 / April 19, 2024
We were all tired but there was no rest for the weary when there was a new area to explore! Our campground in Page is very nice (we’re not able to hear our neighbors sneeze anymore so that’s an improvement) and there is lots to see and do in the area. So let’s get started…
-

Day 118 / April 18, 2024
Today was our last day and we still hadn’t made it to the visitor center. Even though the Grand Canyon is the second (!!!) most popular national park in the US the visitor center is only open a few days a week with very limited hours. Go figure. 🧐
-

Day 117 / April 17, 2024
Now that we’d seen the Grand Canyon, it was time to go down into the Grand Canyon. Only 5% of visitors venture below the rim and we weren’t about to be on the wrong end of that statistic.
