Day 155 / May 25, 2024

It was another rainy day but that wasn’t about to stop us from exploring nearby Canmore. After much grumbling, we convinced/forced the kids to hike up to Grassi Lakes. 😬

It was a long hike uphill in the rain.
When the rain turned into a downpour we pulled out our rain pants and kept on hiking.
Morale was at an all time low by this point so we let Adler play “camouflage” off trail for a little bit as an attempt to reset things. 😅
The Upper and Lower Grassi Lakes are at elevation of about 1,525 meters in the Canadian Rockies and overlook the town of Canmore.
When we reached Lower Grassi Lake and first saw the turquoise colors – it seriously took our breath away! 😱
I’ve never felt so validated when Adler said, “Wow! Seeing this made the hike all worth it!” I’m tucking that quote into my back pocket for next time. 🤪
Upper Grassi Lake was just as beautiful
Riggs was less interested in the landscape and more into the squirrels that were teasing him relentlessly. 🐿️
Wouldn’t even pose in front of the lake because of the squirrels. 🥺
We passed waterfalls and amazing views of Bow Valley on our hike back down.
Soon the sky opened up and the rain started again.
Somehow Riggs spotted a bighorn sheep all the way down the cliff. They locked eyes with each other and proceeded to have an epic stare down. 👀
Thank goodness for rain gear because there’s only one way off the mountain.
The hike down pretty much ended the way it started – with the exception of the bad attitudes that miraculously disappeared after being outdoors. 🙌🏻
Adler found an interesting rock at the end of the hike. 😆
The sun came back out after we got off the mountain so we headed to see the Canmore Engine Bridge.
Not a bad view, eh!
The bridge was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1891 on a railroad spur line to serve a nearby coal mine.
An aspiring videographer knows a sweet backdrop when he sees one. Turns out, he’s not alone – the HBO series “The Last of Us” filmed an episode right in this very spot.
We thought that our family liked yogurt but these ginormous yogurt containers in Canada are putting our love of yogurt to shame!
Even grocery shopping is more enjoyable when you walk out of the store and see these mountains. 🏔️
After a long day of exploring it was back to our campground and the friendly elk.
