Day 108 / April 8, 2024

It’s finally the day that we’ve been looking forward to! The solar eclipse is happening and everyone around me is excited that I’ll be able to stop obsessively checking cloud cover forecasts and constantly sharing updates. 🌤️

Adler started pregaming early just in case NASA was wrong about the start time. (Spoiler alert: they weren’t. 😆)
We were able to walk right behind our campsite into a field of wildflowers to watch the eclipse.
Nana brought the kids matching solar eclipse merch which was fun!
If you need a refresher from elementary school science (we might have 🤪) a total solar eclipse occurs when the sun is fully blocked by the moon.
We clearly didn’t have to fight any crowds.
There were moments of clear skies and we were able to watch the moon slowly cover the sun. One thing that surprised us was how chilly it became as the partial eclipse continued!
Most of Texas didn’t have completely clear skies for the eclipse but since we were in the path of totality we were able to experience darkness in the middle of the afternoon.
The moment the moon completely covered the sun and we could see the solar corona (the bright halo around the sun) everyone starting cheering! The clouds were a bummer but we still saw it!
Here comes the sun (again)
Everett had the great idea to set up a time lapse video which shows how dark it got.
After the main event, the kids lost interest and went back to playing Nerf wars with fellow campground kids. The glasses were giving some major Terminator vibes.
No matter what we did we couldn’t get Riggs to keep his glasses on! 😉
We were lucky to snag the elusive Eclipse Explorer Junior Ranger badge to add to our collection.
The hilarious Lyndon B Johnson badge was a serious bonus! 😎
We were there and it was AMAZING! Who’s coming with me for the 2044 total solar eclipse?!
