Day 200 / July 9, 2024

We spent the day at the campground and then headed out for a wildlife drive in the evening.

Although there had been bears recently spotted in the campground, it seemed like a safe enough place to get some miles under our tires. The mountain biking season started on July 1st back home and we are discovering that it’s harder than we thought it would be to find places to bike here. 🐻
Riggs spent some time playing fetch in the crystal clear water.
Everett noticed that today was day 200 on the road and wanted to celebrate. We couldn’t argue with that logic and stopped at Wildman’s in Cooper Landing for an ice cream.
Our plan for the evening was to check out Skilak Lake Road. We read that this 18-mile-long loop gravĀel road is the preĀmier wildlife-viewĀing area on the Kenai PeninĀsuĀla, and that we’ll also get to see specĀtacĀuĀlar views of lakes and glacĀiĀers.
They weren’t wrong. However, we have become spoiled by being surrounded by all of the natural beauty of Alaska day and day out for over a month now.
Riggs took a quick dip in Skilak Lake. Yawn, just another crystal clear lake. #spoiled
Ironically, we saw zero wildlife on our drive through the nature preserve but nearly ran into this mama moose and her calves on the side of the road only a mile from our campground.
We pulled off the road and watched for a few minutes. The babies were so curious and cute! šŸ«Ž
