Day 196 / July 5, 2024

Today we moved campsites for our third time while in Seward. Because we were late in planning we had to piece together available reservations which meant switching campgrounds. By the looks of the line at the dump station we weren’t alone as there were lots of campers coming and going.

Matt has the process down to a science and clocked in today’s visit to the sanitation station at a speedy 3 minutes 15 seconds.
After we were settled in our newest campsite (right on Resurrection Bay) Jen and I took the kids to the Seward Community Library & Museum.
In 1926 there was a contest open to local school children to see who could design the best flag.
Benny Benson, a 14 year old orphan who lived in the Jesse Lee Home, won the contest and his design is the Alaska state flag.
Every time we see a Kamleika or Gut Parka (made from animal intestines and ideal for wet weather) I make the same joke about Gore-Tex being called Gut-Tex. 😝
We watched the documentary “Waves Over Seward: The 1964 Earthquake” and heard first-person accounts of the earthquake that changed Seward forever.
Olympian Lydia Jacoby, who grew up in Seward, won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics when she was only 17 years old. She had to travel to Anchorage to train because the pool in Seward is only 25-yards long.
Adler could have stayed in the museum all day but we also wanted to head upstairs to see their library.
The Seward library was pretty neat and my favorite part was that the children’s area was closed in and soundproofed. I would have appreciated that when my kids were younger! 🤫
After the dads were done with work for the day, we walked to Firebrand BBQ for dinner.
We all felt so smart when we spotted this sign around town and knew the story.
The campsites on the water were great for watching the cruise ships go by.
Here is the real reason I am behind on the blog! 🐾
