Day 168 / June 7, 2024

The kids desperately needed some outdoor time before yet another day of driving. Today will be day 7 of all day driving if you’re playing along. Whose idea was this anyway?! 😅

Thankfully we were at the perfect campground for getting outside and Riggs was able to play on the beach.
Adler practiced spear fishing off the dock but came up empty handed.
The playground had a fun zipline which was a big hit!
We finally resigned to the fact that we weren’t going to make it to Alaska if we didn’t keep driving and got on the road at 11 am.
Never a good omen when the sign says “COLLISION AREA” 🐏
We were in need of a stretch break and just happened to stop at this beautiful viewpoint.
Kluane Lake’s Horseshoe Bay
We found out that we were right across the highway from Solider’s Summit so we decided to take a quick hike up to see it.
The Alaska Canada (ALCAN) Highway officially opened right here in November 1942.
Found another set of Parks Canada red chairs here at Kluane National Park & Preserve.
Kluane has the highest concentration of grizzly bears in North America so Adler was on the lookout. No bears spotted here, but we did see dall sheep.
Life in the vast lane
Tonight we stayed at Discovery Yukon Lodge in Beaver Creek. We’ve managed to balance our tanks so we can do more boondocking but every few days we need those full hook ups to reset.
We think that Adler might live in the Yukon Territory one day. Sometimes when he doesn’t listen to me, I’m tempted to drop him off right now! 😆
The campground has a grass airstrip which is not only handy for bush planes but also handy for playing fetch.
We met a pilot from Wisconsin who was flying to Alaska (apparently this is also a thing) and had to make an emergency landing here. Unfortunately he hit some trees and damaged his plane so he is waiting for repairs. I don’t think Amazon Prime is 2-day shipping up here…
Super fun for the kids to watch a plane land after dinner. We found out that he flew in to fix the campground generator. That’s life here in the Yukon!
