Day 166 / June 5, 2024

Last night we finally had to break down and stay at an RV campground with full hookups so we could catch up on laundry and reset for the next few days. There were very few options to chose from in Watson Lake and they all were terrible. 😣

We stayed at Downtown RV Park which was literally a parking lot packed with RVs. It was BAD and expensive which made it even worse! We used as much water and power as possible to get our money’s worth. We also made sure we were the last to leave at check out time. 🤭
On our way out of town we stopped at the world famous Sign Post Forest.
The Sign Post Forest was started in 1942 by a homesick solider working on the Alaska Highway who put up a sign with the name of his hometown and the distance. Others followed suit and the tradition continues to this day.
Elleny has a fellow RVing friend who is also in Alaska this summer. She and Kennedy have kept in touch since they met last summer in Kentucky. She gave Elleny directions to where they hung their sign and we were able to track it down. Hi Clemons family! 👋🏻
The kids had fun trying out some equipment that was used during the construction of the Alaska Highway.
As of 2023, there were an estimated 100,000 signs in the Sign Post Forest.
We were leaving the Sign Forest and I just happened to turn around and see the Hudson, Wi sign.
Since we were not prepared with a sign of our own we stuck a Dynatrekkin’ sticker on the edge of our hometown’s sign.
We also signed the back since our sticker probably won’t last very long in the Alaskan winter weather.
What a lucky find!
Back on the road and found out that it was a good thing that we didn’t get the windshield fixed.
The long day of driving was made more tolerable with views like this. The kids, however, are not finding the views as rewarding. 🤣
No icky private campground tonight!
We were fortunate enough to snag a spot at Teslin Lake territorial campground.
