Day 198 / July 7, 2024

This morning we left our waterfront campsite and headed back to the Seward KOA for our last night. We needed some full hook ups to catch up on laundry and dishes!

Loved the access to the waterfront, but dry camping is only enjoyable for so long. 😆
Adler and I made a quick stop at Safeway to restock a few things. Grocery stores are sparse in these parts and EXPENSIVE. Safeway does have a killer pear gorgonzola prosciutto frozen pizza that we’ve become addicted to!
Riggs was happy to be back in his old stomping grounds across from the KOA campground. The screeching eaglets are still here too. 🦅
The Tonsina Creek Trail has been on our to do list the entire time we’ve been in Seward. Since today was our last day it was time to hike!
This is one of those hikes where you need to intentionally time it with the tides correctly so you don’t get stranded. 🌊
The hike started out easy peasy.
Soon we entered into the thick spruce forest.
The trail continued over boardwalks…
…and bridges over pretty stream crossings.
We were hoping that we might see salmon swimming up Tonsina Creek but it was too early in the season.
We really felt like we were in the rainforest once we started to see the moss covered trees.
They were straight out of a Dr. Seuss book!
Since it was getting close to dinner time (can you feel the hanger here?!) we decided to turn around instead of continuing on to Caines Head.
The only way down to see the water was through some thick brush that screamed bear habitat to me. 😳
We yelled some “Hey Bears!” as loud as we could and hiked through the brush. It was scary but I will admit – it was worth it at the end.
We hung out on the black sand beach of Resurrection Bay for a little bit before starting our hike back.
I just love a coastal rainforest!
5 miles roundtrip 🥾
Nothing like finally getting the picture of the Welcome to Seward sign on your way out of town for the last time! 😂
We invited the Clemons over for s’mores.
It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later. We’ll see you down the road! 👋
