Day 192 / July 1, 2024

This morning was a cloudy, rainy day in Seward but we were told that is the “perfect” weather for sea kayaking. We’ll be the judge of that. 😜

After we met our guides we headed down to the beach to prepare our kayaks.
Ready to rock with our waterproof gear!
After a brief safety lesson we were set free on the turquoise green waters of Resurrection Bay. I was wishing that I hadn’t learned it is over 900 feet deep. 😳
And when a Stellar sea lion popped it’s head out of the water and exhaled so close to us that we could smell it’s stinky breath?! I really wished that I hadn’t seen how big they were yesterday at the aquarium!
Soon we beached our kayaks for a snack break at the enchanting Ghost Forest.
These little kayakers were right at home on the water.
The sea skirt didn’t slow Everett down from exploring the coastal rainforest after snack time was done.
Gearing up for the way home
Proof that grandparents are never too old for an adventure! 😁
There were lots of interesting sea caves along the shoreline.
The locals were right – the water was quiet and calm today because it was cloudy and rainy. We did end up loving our paddle in the rain!
Poor Riggs wasn’t invited on the sea kayaking trip so he decided to run away with the local sled dogs. This particular team doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere too quick…
