There are an average of 1,000 earthquakes each month in Alaska and this 3.6 magnitude earthquake happened near us this morning. We didn’t feel a thing, but it gave us pause knowing that we are in the most most seismically-active state in the country. 🤯Once we were settled into our new campground in Palmer we took a drive up to Hatcher Pass. Between the towns of Willow and Palmer, and set in the Talkeetna Mountains, Hatcher Pass is a favorite hot spot for locals.People were skiing and snowboarding down the mountain – and this was at the end of June! The skiing is so good at the Independence Bowl that it used to be the training grounds for the Junior Olympic ski team.Hatcher Pass had just opened up a few days before our visit. The road typically doesn’t open until July 4th and requires a high clearance vehicle to traverse the bumpy gravel road.In good weather, you can see the Chugach Range, Alaska Range, and Pioneer Peak but Riggs wasn’t sure which one was which. 😆 The views were amazing and completely worth the drive.Kids! There are kids here! 🤪 We’ve realized that being around other families makes the journey more enjoyable for our kids so we’ve made an effort to seek out family friendly campgrounds. You can’t have it all though. We voted this campground as having the absolute worst dog park. 💩The extended daylight continues to mess with our bedtime schedule as evidenced by Adler eating a snack at 10:30 pm. 😱
