Goodbye Denali National Park, hello huge mountain named Denali! As we left our campground in Healy and headed towards Talkeetna we were greeted with the most amazing views. šŸ”ļø

Denali, the highest mountain in North America, measures in at a whooping 20,310 feet. The name means “the tall one” in Koyukon which is a traditional Native Alaskan language.
Did you learn that Mount McKinley was the highest mountain in North America and are now feeling confused? The mountain was called Denali for many generations and even by early non-Native researchers. In 1896 a gold prospector began calling Denali ā€œMount McKinley,ā€ in honor of William McKinley, who was a presidential candidate at the time. President Obama took action in 2015 to change the name back to Denali, which is now its official name. Whew, mystery solved!
Even more awe-inspiring than seeing Denali was seeing the Apple Maps car at a gas station. At least it was for Everett! šŸ˜† The driver was so sweet and let him peek inside to see how it works.
We unhooked the car (we read the campground was tiny) and headed straight for the international mountaineering town of Talkeetna.
Talkeetna is a center for flightseeing and mountaineering. I think that we’re going to like it here just fine!
