Day 105 / April 5, 2024

Today we took Nana and Papa to Natural Bridge Caverns to check out one of the largest caverns in Texas. Put a cave face on; we’re heading in! 🔦

Right as we descended into the cave the different types of formations were very impressive.
In 1960 four college students from San Antonio obtained permission to explore the area and discovered the cave. This is one of the holes that they drilled to find the large room we were standing in. Apparently when cave explorers feel a cool draft it can indicate the presence of additional rooms or passages. I’ll take their word for it because I won’t be trying it myself!
The cave tour we picked included a sound and light show designed to tell the geological story of the cavern. It was Everett approved. 💡
The tour concluded with a fun ride back to the surface on the B.A.T (Belt Assisted Transport – hopefully someone got a bonus for coming up with that acronym 😂). They said that it is the only conveyor system ride out of a cavern in the world and it was pretty slick.
