Day 78 / March 9, 2024

We had a rough night of sleep last night with Riggs acting up and being restless. We could tell something was wrong, but we weren’t sure what was going on and he wasn’t telling us. 🧐

This morning Riggs was drooling and still acting out of sorts. Upon further inspection we found that he had a chipped tooth! Matt put two and two together and remembered something that happened last night while they were on his last walk. Riggs saw a decorative pig (made of concrete) at the neighbor’s campsite which he decided to lunge at full speed in the dark. This case of mistaken identity apparently caused some dental damage. You cannot make this stuff up!
Since it was overcast and our dog needed a recovery day we decided to drive to Pensacola to visit the National Naval Aviation Museum.
The kids were hooked by the interactive demonstrations on the USS Nimitz replica flight deck right away.
The museum is a military and aerospace museum located at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
There are more than 4,000 artifacts and over 150 restored aircraft representing Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard aviation in the museum.
Naval Air Station Pensacola also happens to be the home of the Blue Angels.
It would have been amazing to plan a visit on a day that the Blue Angels were practicing, but we were a few weeks too early.
The kids tried out many different types of cockpit trainers during our visit.
One future pilot in particular could have stayed all day.
Elleny found the signature of a potential relative, John W. Hutton, on a wall that was taken from a house in Hawaii. Pilots would sign and date this wall before they left to go fight in the Pacific.
The National Naval Aviation Museum is consistently voted a “must-see” along the Gulf Coast and we can see why. You could spend 3 days there and still not see everything!
Adler climbed into every cockpit simulator there was – and there were a lot of them!
Such a cool museum and we’re glad that we had a chance to visit!
I have to document the good and the bad, so here’s a not so pleasant moment that needs to be remembered. The poor guy must be in a lot of pain because the drool is out of control and was grossing everyone out by the end of the day.
Even though you’re a doofus sometimes, we still love you Riggs! Now stop drooling on our groceries.
